WELCOME TO

HEADFORT SCHOOL

Our school has stood proudly in this corner of Kells, County Meath, for over two centuries.

Beyond the old wrought iron gates sits a beautiful story of freedom, of adventure, of an unrushed childhood – of everything that a primary school should be.

It is here, on the vast grounds of Headfort School, that children have, for over seventy years, enjoyed space, found solitude, and shared in a sanctuary that only exists in this magnificent corner of Ireland.

As Ireland’s only day and boarding primary school, our students are nurtured in a space that centres learning on what it means to ask big questions, to inquire into new ideas, and to challenge each other with a curiosity born of a bespoke and vigorous curriculum.

There are no playgrounds, for the trees are where we play.

There are no mobile phones, for we choose human connection.

There are no averages, for we believe in the uniqueness of every individual.

At our school we celebrate our story each and every day, and we invite you to join us as we write the next chapter of the Headfort Journey

Our Philosophy

At Headfort students are treated as individuals and their emotional and social development is our priority. The curriculum is deliberately flexible, continually reviewed and consistently modified. It provides a framework for a range of sensory and experiential learning opportunities across the Arts, Environmental Studies, Philosophy, Humanities and Physical Education, as well as the development of concepts and skills across English, Mathematics, Languages and Science.

Learning at Headfort takes place in a variety of contexts from classrooms to apple orchards, sports fields to local farms; knowledge-based learning is combined with a deliberate exposure to nature to deepen the learning and teaching experience and to live out our commitment to an unrushed childhood.
